Two men charged with human trafficking offences in the North

Two men have appeared in court in Lisburn charged with human trafficking and forced labour offences. It comes after 20 potential Romanian victims were rescued in Co Armagh yesterday.

It followed searches as part of an investigation into labour exploitation.

The 14 men and six women are aged between 20 and 48, and have been moved to a safe location.

Ioan Lacatus (31) from Hanover Street in Portadown and Samuil Covaci (23) from Charles Street in the town appeared at Lisburn Magistrates Court this morning.

A PSNI constable told the court he believed he could connect the pair, who are also from Romania, to the charges.

No bail applications were made and both men were remanded into custody to appear via videolink at the end of the month.

The men were arrested yesterday and three vehicles were also seized.
