Gardaí are investigating the discovery of three viable explosive devices in Tallaght in Dublin last night.

The Army Bomb Disposal Squad was called to the scene at Cushlawn after the devices were found on a green area by a member of the public at around 8.30pm.

A number of houses were evacuated and the devices were made safe just before 10 O'clock, without the need for a controlled explosion.

The team then transported the devices back to a secure military location for further examination. After tests, the devices were declared viable shortly before midnight.

The components of the devices have been handed over to assist gardaí with their investigation into the incident.

This was the 23rd call out of the Bomb Disposal Team in 2014, who have dealt with 10 viable devices so far this year.
