Three men have gone on trial accused of raping a woman they met in a Dublin city nightclub.

The men, who can't be named due to the nature of the charges, have pleaded not guilty, claiming what happened that night was consensual.

Prosecuting barrister, Karl Finnegan SC, told the jury the woman was out on a night in August 2019 when she met the three men.

Mr Finnegan said her recollection of events was “extremely fragmented,” but that she remembered getting into what she thought was a taxi with a group of men.

He said she recalls someone having sex with her in the back of the car and later being in someone’s house.

He said she remembers waking up the next morning beside a man she did not know.

The woman went to Gardaí that morning and was treated in a Sexual Assault Treatment Unit later that day, Mr Finnegan added.

The men were tracked down and during Garda interviews, each of them claimed all sexual interactions with the woman were consensual.

Mr Finnegan told the jury “this case boils down to consent", and that they’d have to decide whether the woman was capable of consent given her level of intoxication.
