Three people have been arrested in Ireland as part of an international operation into identity fraud.
As part of the operation, a search and arrest operation was conducted by the Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) on Tuesday, supported by officers from the Policía Nacional of Spain.
A 45-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man have been arrested and are being held under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act at Blanchardstown Garda station.
Officers also seized suspected false documents, phones, financial documentation and cash.
Another man, aged 47, was arrested during a search and arrest operation last Thursday and is also being held under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act at Ballymun Garda station.
Tuesday's operation was attended by the Garda liaison officer to Spain, and three officers from the Spanish Policía Nacional who are in Ireland to advance the investigation.
The Policía Nacional carried out searches in Barcelona on Monday as part of the same operation, and seized false documents, flight tickets/bookings and evidence from parcel delivery services.
One person was arrested during this search.
The arrests are part of Operation Mombasa: a multi-jurisdictional investigation that started in late 2018.
It centres on an organised crime group, primarily Georgian nationals, who are known to be resident in Ireland.
They are believed to be involved in the large-scale production and distribution of false identity and travel documents - such as passports, national ID cards and driving licences - to order.
They are sending these documents from Ireland to people outside the State using regular postal and courier services.
