Three people have been killed in a crash in County Carlow.
It happened at around 11:30 on the N80 at Leagh between Graiguenaspiddoge and Kellistown.
The driver and two passengers in the car were pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, a man in his 20s has been taken to St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
There was only one vehicle involved in the crash.
Devastating
This afternoon, the Minister of State with responsibility for road safety Jack Chambers offered his condolences to the families.
“It was a devasting incident in Carlow,” he said.
“Three young people have lost their lives and I have sympathies with their families on what is a terrible day for the wider Carlow community as well.
“We have seen a continuity in 2024 of the trend that we saw last year which was a seriously high number of fatalities.
“We are all working together to redouble our efforts from a road safety perspective.”
Witnesses
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to come forward.
They are particularly interested in talking to road users who were travelling the N80 at Leagh between 11:15pm and midnight and may have camera footage.
