Jackie Healy-Rae to be laid to rest

The former Independent TD Jackie Healy-Rae will be laid to rest today in his native Kerry. The veteran politician passed away on Friday afternoon at the age of 83, following a short illness.

His burial will take place following Requiem Mass at 12 midday in St Patrick's Church, Kilgarvan.

Typhoon Hagupit continues to hit the Philippines

At least three people have been killed as a typhoon battered the Philippines, knocking out power and bringing down trees.

Nearly 900,000 people fled their homes for shelters ahead of Typhoon Hagupit hitting Samar Island in the east of the country, still reeling from last November's devastating storm which left more than 7,300 people dead or missing.

Homeless beds to come on stream

The first 31 emergency beds are to be made available to help get homeless people off the streets of the capital.

Last week the government promised 200 beds would be provided before Christmas, so no one has to sleep rough unless they want to.
