Fallout from 2014 end of year exchequer figures
This evening the Deparment of Finance published the Exchequer figures for December, giving us the full picture of the year in tax in Ireland.
Tax revenues were almost four per cent up on estimates, while borrowing was €8.2bn for the year.
There appears to be ample ammunition for debate and tomorrow should see the fallout.
Ibrahim Halwawa trial to begin
The trail of Irish teenager Ibrahim Halawa is to begin in Cairo on Tuesday. The 19 year old faces charges of murder, attempted murder and participating in an illegal protest. He stands trial along with 493 Egyptians facing the death penalty and long-term prison sentences.
Halawa’s cause has been apparently helped by the decision of the Egypitan authorities to grant a re-trial to three imprisoned Al-Jazeera journalists.
Opening of the 51st BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition at the RDS
Student scientists are setting up their stands at the RDS tomorrow morning for the 51st BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition.
550 projects involving 1200 students from across Ireland will be on display in the competition’s four categories: Chemical, physical and mathematical sciences; biological and ecological sciences; Social and behavioural; and Technology.
The event is open to the public from Thursday until Saturday.
