Three teenagers have been arrested following an attempted armed robbery at an off-licence in Westmeath.
It happened yesterday evening in Mullingar.
At around 8:10pm last night, two teenager boys entered the off-licence on Ashe Road in Mullingar.
One of them threatened a staff member with an apparent handgun.
It's believed the staff member fended off the the teenagers before they fled from the store empty handed.
The alarm was raised, and three teenagers were arrested during a follow-up operation a short time later.
An imitation hand gun was recovered by investigating gardaí, and the scene is preserved for examination.
All three teenagers - two aged 15 and one aged 17 - are being held at Mullingar Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
