Reaction to new political party

The political world has been reacting to today's announcement of plans for a new party.

Financial journalist Eddie Hobbs is joining Lucinda Creighton to form the party, which is being launched in around eight weeks time.

The party to be launched later in the spring does not yet have a name, but it does have a hashtag - summarising its ambition to 'reboot Ireland.'

Migrant ship

A ship abandoned off the Italian coast - with up to 450 migrants on board - has arrived in Southern Italy.

The Italian Air Force sent a helicopter to the scene earlier, lowering coastguard officials to secure the vessel in stormy conditions.

The Ezadeen, sailing under the flag of Sierra Leone, believed to have set sail from Turkey, lost power in rough seas overnight off the south-east of Italy.

Cobh funeral

Hundreds of people attended the funeral of 49-year-old mother of two Valerie Greaney today, who died in Co Cork last Sunday.

Her husband Michael, who took his own life after killing stabbing his wife to death at the family home in Cobh, will be buried tomorrow.
