The north eastern states of the United States are facing a potentially ‘historic’ blizzard as heavy snow and high winds hit, leading to a state of emergency being declared in several areas across the north east of the country, including travel restrictions and warnings to residents to prepare for conditions that could be worse than any they’ve experienced before.
Aer Lingus have cancelled several flights to New York and Boston on Tuesday.
Auschwitz liberation 70th anniversary
Tuesday marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp. In advance of the day, survivors of the camp have visited, many for the first time, from all over the world. On Tuesday survivors will join heads of state for a ceremony marking the anniversary and commemorating the liberation of the camp by allied forces.
Nurses protest
Nurses at the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar are holding a lunchtime demonstration on Tuesday, in protest at constant overcrowding in the Emergency Department.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is urging the Minister for Health to intervene and allow the recruitment of additional staff.
It also wants step down beds open, so patients can be moved after their acute care.
