International expert testifies at Banking Inquiry
An international finance expert is to addressing the Oireachtas Banking Inquiry on Wednesday morning.
Dr Edward Kane is Professor of Finance at Boston College in the US and he consults for the World Bank.
His research includes financial crisis management, deposit insurance and causes and implications of financial change.
The inquiry is currently concentrating on banking policy, systems and practices.
Remit of GSOC up for review
A bill which sets out to expand the remit of the Garda Ombudsman is being debated by the Oireachtas justice committee this afternoon.
The Minister for Justice, Frances Fitzgerald, will address the committee.
The bill will widen the powers of investigation given to GSOC.
It will also allow the Ombudsman Commission to be able to initiate its own inquiries.
New mortgage rules
Today the Central Bank announced new mortgage rules, with some good news for borrowers, but with significant reservations for many.
On Wednesday the Governor of the Central Bank will hold a press conference on the new Macro-prudential policy for residential mortgage lending.
