New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve will see celebrations across the country as Ireland bids farewell to the old and embraces the new.

The main event in the city is the Countdown Concert at College Green between 8.00pm and 12.20am with some of Ireland’s biggest musical acts performing for the crowd, including Kodaline and James Vincent McMorrow.

There will also be live music at Meeting House Square in Temple Bar, headlined by Le Galaxie and also featuring Adeyhawke, Adultrock, and TXFM and Today FM's Kelly-Anne Byrne playing a DJ set.

There are family events on across the country, with events in every major town centre from Tralee to Belfast.

Canada deaths

Tonight it emerged that nine deaths in Canada are believed to be linked, with police in the eastern cities of Fort Saskatchewan and Edmonton examining three crime scenes.

Air Asia

Indonesia's President has offered condolences to those who lost loved ones in the AirAsia plane crash. At least 40 bodies and wreckage have been recovered.

The recovery operation continues, while the work to explain the disaster will only just be beginning.
