Gardaí have arrested three women after the seizure of six pipe bombs in County Galway.

€20,000 worth of cocaine and €9,000 worth of cannabis were also discovered during a search in the house in Menlough, Ballinasloe yesterday.

The operation was described by Gardaí as being “intelligence-led” and the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal attended to ensure the safe removal of the pipe bombs.

More than €9,000 in cash and two phones were seized during a follow-up search in Loughrea.

Of the three women who were arrested for questioning, one has since been released and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
