/> It’s the final day of the London Olympic Games.
Team Ireland had its most successful Olympics for almost 60 years – bringing home 5 medals – one Gold, one Silver and three Bronze.
Bray boxer Katie Taylor won Ireland’s only Gold medal and last night John Joe Nevin secured a silver medal – just missing out on the gold when he was defeated by 14 points to 11 in his bantamweight final by Britain’s Luke Campbell.
Boxers Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlon won bronze medals, along with showjumper Cian O’Connor.
Last night, President Michael D Higgins offered his ‘sincere’ congratulations to John Joe Nevin, calling his achievement outstanding.
While, the Tanaiste, Eamon Gilmore, said Nevin had done Ireland proud.
This morning, Natalya Coyle is in action in the Modern Pentathalon.
She competes in the Fencing from 8am, before turning her attention to Swimming just after midday.
Also this morning, Celbridge athlete Mark Kenneally races in the Men’s Marathon from 11am.
Meanwhile, London 2012 chairman Lord Coe says tonight’s Olympic Closing Ceremony will be a fun tribute to British music.
Organisers say it’ll be more relaxed than Danny Boyle’s extravagant Opening Ceremony.
Stars including George Michael and the Spice Girls have been spotted rehearsing for the show in east London.
