In the last hour police in mid-Wales, searching for a missing five year old, have arrested a 46 year old man.

April Jones was abducted last night in Machynlleth while she was out playing with friends.

The man was arrested on foot in the local area this afternoon. Police are now trying to trace a light coloured van which the little girl was said to have gotten into.

And Detective Superintendent Reg Bevan says the hunt for April herself is also continuing.

The government’s tax take continues to out perform expectations.

Exchequer figures just out show the coalition took in 385 million euro more than expected in the first nine months of the year.

But Ministers Michael Noonan and Brendan Howlin still had to borrow 11 billion euro to balance the books at the end of September.

Expenditure is also under control in most departments – with the exception of health and social protection.

The Taoiseach is again insisting that no decision has been taken to cut child benefit, but he says the government does not have money to throw around.

Enda Kenny was responding to questions about a leak report from a government advisory group recommending a cut of 40 euro in child benefit.

Independent TD Thomas Pringle argued in the Dail that the introduction of a wealth tax would be fairer.

However although the Taoiseach wouldn’t be drawn in to speculation about the budget he indicated that resources are scare.

/> The Taoiseach’ denying an opposition claim that the former junior minister Roisin Shortall wasn’t given the necessary powers to do her job.

She quit last week claiming the Programme for Government wasn’t being adhered to and that Minister James Reilly was blocking reforms.

Fianna Fáil says a document outlining her role and responsibilities laid before the Dáil a year ago never once mentioned she was in charge of primary crae.

Enda Kenny told the Dail that was just a technicality, but that led Micheál Martin to start quoting poetry:

The Broadcasting Authority of Ireland has upheld two complaints against TV3′s Psychics Live programme, saying two broadcasts during the summer were in breach of the broadcasting code.

The authority found that broadcasts on June 26th and July 5th had been in breach of clauses which distinctly bar broadcasters from carrying psychic or fortune telling services which discuss a callers health.

TV3 had responded to the complaints saying the broadcasts were clearly identified as an entertainment service, and that while it could not control the questions that a caller could ask one of the on-air psychics, regulations prohibited psychics from making any claim in relation to health and healing.

The BAI upheld the complaints, however, noting that the psychic had made no effort to end the calls when it had became clear the callers were seeking advice on a health issue.

TV3 will now be required to broadcast an on-air sequence acknowledging the breach of the code.
