A man, woman and baby girl are in a critical condition in hospital following a house fire in the Ardoyne area of north Belfast.

They were rescued from the upstairs of the property in Jamaica Street just before midnight

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

The Garda Ombudsman is investigating after a man's body was discovered beside a petrol station in Tralee, County Kerry.

The man in his 40s was arrested for public order offences yesterday evening near his home in Killarney and brought to Killarney Garda Station.

Shortly after he arrived, he became ill and was taken by ambulance to Tralee General Hospital.

His body was discovered just before 7 o'clock this morning by a member of the public at a car wash in the vicinity of the hospital.

Data from the second black box recovered from the Germanwings plane wreckage in the French Alps has confirmed the co-pilot crashed the jet deliberately.

Investigators in France say that during the descent the settings were changed to increase the aircraft's speed.

The latest information appears to confirm the theory that co-pilot Andreas Lubitz intentionally flew into the French Alps, killing all 150 people on board.

An attack by masked terrorists who stormed a university in eastern Kenya has left at least 147 people dead.

Four masked al Shabaab gunmen rampaged through Garissa University College at dawn on Thursday in the group's deadliest attack in the country.

They were eventually killed by security forces more than 13 hours later after a lengthy gun battle.
