Officials in Kenya say 147 people have been killed in an attack by Al Shabab militants on a university in the north-east of the country.

Four gunmen were killed by security forces at the end of a 16-hour siege which started just before dawn yesterday.

Al-Shabaab said it was targeting Christians.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a carjacking at Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin yesterday morning.

A woman in her mid-30s was parking her car on George's street at around 6.30am when she was approached by a man and threatened.

He then escaped in the vehicle.

The woman was not injured during the incident and the car was later recovered in the Store Street area.

Israel's Prime Minister has criticised a deal between America and Iran over the Iranian nuclear programme.

Benjamin Netanyahu told President Obama the pact - which will see further checks put on Iran in return for easing sanctions - threatens Israel's survival.

But the US President hailed the agreement as "historic".

Gas Networks Ireland has announced plans to hire their first apprentices in 30 years.

50 new jobs at the company will be available as part of the plans.

The scheme is being run in conjunction with the Further Education and Training Authority, Solas.

There was no clear winner of last night's leaders debate in Britain for the upcoming general election.

The economy, the NHS, immigration and the future of young people were all topics for debate.

The Greens, Conservatives, Labour, Lib Dems, UKIP, SNP and Plaid Cymru all had the chance to put their views forward.

Britain will go to the polls on May 7 in what is expected to be one of the tightest elections in years.
