An application by AIB to bankrupt former Fine Gael minister & Newstalk Broadcast Ivan Yates has been dismissed by the High Court.

The bank took proceedings against him over an alleged debt of 3.6 million euro arising from a guarantee on a loan to (Keltik)Celtic Bookmakers.

Ms Justice Elizabeth Dunne has found that Ivan Yates raised ‘real and substantive issues’ in relation to the amount sought by AIB that ought to be determined in seperate proceedings.


/> A second man has died following a road accident in County Westmeath at the weekend.

The 29 year old man died in hospital this afternoon, after being critically injured in the single vehicle crash, which happened outside Mullingar on Saturday afternoon.

Another man in his late 20s died shortly after the crash, while a third person suffered non life threatening injuries.

Gardai are renewing their appeal for anyone who was on Kilucan to Mullingar road between 11am and 12.45pm last Saturday to contact them.

A 19 year old man was abducted from a house in Castletroy on Sunday night and ordered to demand a ransom from family members who owned a post office.

He had a hood placed over the his head and was driven around for a number of hours in his own van, however it seems Gardai came across the vehicle and the armed gang fled empty handed.

The 16 year old who was arrested a short time later can be held for up to 72 hours.

Gardai who are now hunting for a number of other suspects have also sealed off a house in the Donoghmore (pron: Dun uck more) which they believe may have been used by the gang.

The website of the Moscow court that jailed three members of the punk band Pussy Riot has been hacked.

The hack has been claimed by AnonymousRussia, which claims to be affiliated to the hack-tivist group Anonymous.

It follows international criticism of the sentence handed down to the women who were convicted of hooliganism for performing an anti-Putin song in a Moscow Cathedral.
