1. The IMF says the new property tax should be twice rate of what the Government is currently suggesting.
/> In its latest report on Ireland’s bailout, the IMF says the tax should be 0-point-5 per cent of the value of the property – that’s double the point-two-five per cent figure put forward by the Government over the weekend.

It’s also putting pressure on the Government to clamp down on Social Welfare payments – and is urging them to introduce means-testing for child benefit.

The IMF says scaling back benefits – including unemployment payments, medical cards, subsidised college fees and the household benefits package could generate significant savings for the Government.

And Our Business Editor Ian Guider says the IMF sees the property tax as key to improving the tax take:

The bodies of Michael Coleman and Liam Coffey were discovered yesterday morning.

Gardai are awaiting the results of post-mortem examinations on the pair – which they hope will establish how they died.

However Gardaí say they’ve received information that the two men were sold drugs – just hours before they died and they’ve traced those who supplied them.

Gardai last night arrested two men in their 20s in Cork city on suspicion of drug dealing.

And this afternoon, investigating officers arrested a woman in Cork city in connection with this incident.

It’s been the most successful Paralympic Games for an Irish Team in more then 25 years – after we won a total of 16 medals – eight gold, three silver and five bronze.

At last night’s closing ceremony, double gold medal winner Michael McKillop received a special award from the International Paralympic Committee – for demonstrating the best spirit of the Paralympic Games.

He says it’s been a dream – but he’s not ready to focus on Rio 2016 just yet:

The remains were discovered by friends in the front sitting room of a property in Ballickmoyler.

It’s not yet known how the man died but it’s thought he may have been dead for a number of days.

Preliminary results of the post mortem are due this evening after which time Gardai will determine which direction they’re investigation will take.
