Two American universities have been evacuated after receiving specific bomb threats from someone claiming to be a member of Al Qaeda.

North Dakota State University has also been evacuated after receiving a similar threat.

The University of Texas was closed after a man – said to have a Middle-Eastern accent, phoned the university claiming to have planted bombs around the campus.

Rhonda Weldon is the director of communications for the University:

Gardaí are investigating an armed robbery on a cash in transit van in Co. Meath during which a shot was fired.

They are appealing for witnesses to the robbery which happened at a shopping centre in Ratoath.

The raid happened at 1:45pm this afternoon as the cash-in-transit van was making a delivery to an ATM machine at the rear of the Corballis Shopping Centre in Rathoath.

3 men one armed with a firearm and another with a hammer threatened staff of the CIT van.

Gardaí say one shot was fired but no one was injured and no money was taken.

The Revenue Commissioners have published its latest list of tax defaulters.

The list includes the model Glenda Gilson – who made a €73,000 settlement for the underpayment of income tax and VAT  and Tipperary private school principal, Padraig O’Shea - who refused to enrole a pregnant girl earlier this year.

Mr O’Shea, with an address at Borrisoleigh in Thurles, Co Tipperary – made a €705,000 settlement for under-declaring income tax.

The highest yielding case was that of retired company director David Delahunty, of Rathmines in Dublin – which had a 1.2 million euro settlement for the under-declaration of income tax after a revenue investigation.

The bodies of three men found dead at a house in Roscommon town have now been removed to University Hospital Galway where post mortems will be carried out.
