It’s reported a workplace dispute prompted a gunman to go on a shooting spree outside the Empire State Building in New York, killing one person.

The incident happened near the city’s most popular tourist attraction at around 9 o’clock local time – or 2pm Irish time.

It’s understood the gunman – who’s been named as 53 year old Jeffrey Johnson – went into his former place of work – were he was a designer of women’s accessories – and shot a colleague.

Speaking in court this evening and through a translator, Breivik said he will not appeal the sentence – as it would only give legitimacy to the courts.

Gardaí are searching for a man who escaped from custody last night.

The incident happened at around quarter past 7 yesterday evening -when the 25 year old man was being brought into Limerick Prison.

He had earlier appeared at Tralee District Court on a car theft charge.

Another man – a 23 year old co-accused – who also tried to escape at the same time – was apprehended by Gardaí a short time later, near the prison.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
