People all over Ireland are being urged to join this year’s Torch of Hope event in Dublin and help raise vital funds for Arc Cancer Support.

You can register to take part or donate to the cause here.

Taking place on October 13th, the annual event sees hundreds of people who have been impacted by cancer coming together to celebrate cancer survivors and honour those we have lost to the disease.

Sponsored by Hayes Solicitors, the Torch of Hope is a day filled with fun, reflection, laughter, tears and great memories.

The event sees people marching towards the city centre from both sides of the Liffey before converging at the Seán O'Casey Bridge for a “Survivors' Celebration Lap” at the nearby CHQ building, where the Torch of Hope closing ceremony will be held.

All funds raised go towards Arc Cancer Support’s vital services – including the charity’s psychological, emotional, practical and educational support for everyone affected by cancer.

You can sign up here.

The Bredicans are just one of the families joining the march in honour of their “incredible wife and devoted mother” Deborah who passed in 2018.

After Deborah’s death, the family found hope in the midst of turmoil with ARC Cancer Support, with husband Michael commenting: “I don’t know how we would have got through everything if it wasn’t for them.”

The family are now asking you to join them in remembering Deborah and everyone else who has lost their lives to cancer in Ireland by signing up for this year’s Torch of Hope.

Dubliner Eddie Bowden is joining the event five years after he was first diagnosed with lung cancer.

He told Newstalk that through the support services he received from ARC, he found hope for his new future.

“I had to retire from work at 48,” he said. “I had to reinvent myself and ARC gave me the courage and the confidence.

“I ended up going back to college and I got a distinction in project management and event management.

“Without ARC, I could have never done that.”

The Torch of Hope is a walk suitable for all fitness levels with people encouraged to join in at whatever point of the march suits them best.

There are more and more people surviving cancer in Ireland than ever before and ARC needs as much support as possible to help it meet that growing demand.

All ARC’s services are completely free of charge and every penny raised through the Torch of Hope will go to support people impacted by cancer across Ireland.

Registration for Torch of Hope is now officially open – you can walk, skip, roll or stroll and bring your family, friends and even your dogs.

By registering now, you will also receive your ARC t-shirt to wear proudly on the day.
