A British Tory MP has sparked a major Olympic backlash on Twitter.

Aidan Burley poured scorn on the opening ceremony, using words including leftie.

He says he has been misunderstood.

Downing Street has distanced itself from the comments.

Last year, Mr Burley was forced to quit as a ministerial aide after going to a Nazi-themed stag do.
