Two tourists have been injured - one seriously - after falling while climbing cliffs at Howth in Co Dublin.

The Irish Coast Guard was alerted at around 5pm that the incident had happened at Lions Head.

The coastguard helicopter base at Dublin Airport, the local Coastguard unit based at Howth and an ambulance were dispatched.

A male teenager was located around 20 feet from the top of the cliff - a rope was lowered to him and he was winched aboard the helicopter.

The second casualty had fallen 150 feet down the cliffs to the beach below.

He was taken to Tallaght Hospital in the Coast Guard helicopter, in a serious condition.
