Thousands of travellers will be affected by strike action taken by Irish Rail SIPTU and National Bus and Rail Union Workers this Sunday and Monday.
It comes as proposed pay cuts of 1.7% for workers earning under €56,000, and up to 6.1% for those earning over €56,000 were rejected by the unions.
Among the events affected will be Sunday’s Mayo versus Kerry All Ireland Semi Final, with 60,000 people discommoded on Sunday and 100,000 on Monday.
Minister for Transport Paschal Donohoe told Lunchtime that he is ‘acutely aware’ of the disruption strike action will cause Irish Rail passengers this Sunday.
Minister Donohue says he hugely regrets the decision by the National Bus and Rail Union and SIPTU to engage in industrial action when Irish Rail is carrying accumulated losses of nearly €150m.
