Transport workers are putting up with higher than ever levels of abuse and anti-social behaviour.
The problem is highlighted in a new survey of 600 transport staff published this morning.
SIPTU is launching a major new campaign for legislative and societal level change to curtail the high level of abuse and anti-social behaviour directed at public transport workers.
More than one-third of transport workers in Ireland believe abuse and anti-social behaviour is a serious issue.

"What's come back very clearly in relation to our survey is that first of all, and probably most startling, over 50% of people experience anti-social behaviour either on a daily or weekly basis," he said.
"The vast majority of workers believe that the situation has got worse in the last 12 months.
"Over a third of workers see it as a serious issue.
"I think we've transitioned from a situation where we're one the few countries where people say, 'Thanks' to the bus driver to a case where now more people are abusing transport workers.
"That has to stop," he added.
The launch will include the release of a series of campaign videos and a new 'Respect Transport Workers' badge.
