Overnight downpours and thunderstorms caused havoc for drivers in the Midlands and south of the country this morning.
Flooding is still posing a problem at this stage with a number of roads impassable in Tipperary and also in Waterford.
A landslide there has closed a road to traffic.

Rail passengers did not escape either after lightning strikes hit Irish Rail signalling equipment at one stage.
This led to delays on services passing through Portarlington in Co. Laois.
