In Kilkenny emergency services are currently at the scene of a fire at an oil depot on the R448 Kilmacow to Waterford Road.
The fire was discovered shortly before midday.
Gardaí are asking motorists to avoid the area.
Gardaí are also asking those travelling on the Dublin-Cork motorway to not exit at the Mullinavat exit.
Diversions are in place and Irish Rail services have also been affected.
Train services are only running between Heuston Station and Kilkenny until tomorrow morning because of the fire near the line in Kilkenny.
A bus transfer is in operation between Kilkenny and Waterford.
A 1 kilometre exclusion zone has been set up in the area.
Poor visibility is being reported on the Dublin to Cork motorway.
Road closures and suspended rail services will be in place until at least lunchtime tomorrow due to the risk of an explosion.
