Thousands of rail passengers face disruption this morning in the first of a two-day work stoppage at Iarnród Éireann.
Irish Rail says no Intercity, DART or commuter trains will run -apart from the Luas in Dublin, due to the action -by the NBRU and SIPTU.
It's in a dispute over temporary pay cuts at Irish Rail - which the company says are necessary for its survival.
However, SIPTU says the company has reneged on a deal it made with workers in 2012, and now its members do not believe guarantees from management that cuts to their pay will be temporary.
GAA fans travelling to Croke Park in Dublin for today's football semi-final between Kerry and Mayo will have to travel by road - with three more strikes planned for September 7th, 8th and 21st - dates which coincide the All-Ireland Football and Hurling Finals.
Paul Cullen Assistant Organiser for SIPTU at Irish Rail, says workers have been left with no other option but to strike.
Iarnrod Eireann has apologised to passengers for this disruption to services.
Spokesperson Barry Kenny says the company needs to make urgent savings in order to survive.
