The jury at the trial of two boys charged with raping a 16-year-old girl have been shown video footage filmed inside a car in which the alleged offences are said to have happened.
The two boys are charged with raping the girl in the back of a car in a field carpark at Limerick racecourse on December 26th 2022.
Four short videos from a phone owned by one of the boys were shown to jurors this morning.
Prosecution Barrister Dean Kelly told the court the footage was filmed from the front of the car and said three of the clips showed a “male appearing to have sex with a female”.
Mr Kelly said the fourth clip shows a female walking across an area of roadway and field, which appears to be used for parking cars.
“I never raped anyone”
This afternoon, a Garda who interviewed one of the boys charged with raping a 16-year-old girl began giving evidence.
Mr Kelly read a memo of interview questions and answers with one of the boys from January 6th 2023 into evidence.
When asked if he knew why he was arrested that day, the boy replied: “I was blamed in the wrong”.
In response to another question, the boy replied: “I never raped anyone”.
A third boy is also on trial charged with aiding and abetting the two boys and with false imprisonment of the girl.
The trial continues tomorrow.
