Tributes have been paid to a 27-year-old Irish man who has died following a "tragic accident" in Australia.

Ryan Straney who is originally from Belfast died in a road crash in Sydney on Monday.

In an online death notice, he has been remembered as "beloved son of Vincent and Sharon, loving brother to Declan and Calum. Cherished grandson of Geordie and Theresa.

"He will be sadly missed by his wider family circle and friends at home and abroad," the notice said.

It said Mr Straney "passed away suddenly...as the result of a tragic accident".

Antrim GAA also paid tribute to Mr Stanley, saying the entire community was 'shocked' by his death.

He was a member of Lámh Dhearg CLG Senior Football team.

Australia's 9News reports Mr Straney was killed after a multi-vehicle crash on a motorway in north Sydney.

New South Wales Police said a 27-year-old driver died at the scene on the Pacific Motorway while  paramedics treated three other people.

A 96-year-old man was taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Officers were told a vehicle traveling southbound collided with three vehicles travelling northbound early yesterday morning.

Police added that an investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
