Tributes are being paid to a Dublin man who has died in a cycling accident in the French Pyrenees.
Niall Kieran was on a cycling trip with his father to coincide with this weekend’s Tour de France finale.
It is understood he died when his bike left the road in a mountainous area on Sunday.
Niall and his father Gerry are both longtime members of the Orwell Wheelers cycling club in south Dublin.
'Well-known and loved'
In a statement, the club said Niall was “well-known and loved” in the cycling community.
“It is with deep sorrow that we have to share the news of the tragic passing of clubmate Niall Kieran in a cycling accident last weekend,” the club said.
“Those who knew Niall would be aware that he was so looking forward to this trip with his dad.
“Niall loved every aspect of cycling – weekend spins, racing and the social side. He was well known and loved throughout the club.”
Houses of the Oireachtas
The club offered its thoughts and heartfelt condolences to Niall’s family.
Niall was a staff member at the Houses of the Oireachtas, where he worked as a clerical officer in the IT department.
Staff have been offered support to deal with the shock of his sudden death.
