Newstalk’s much-loved ‘Movies and Booze’ contributor Tomás Clancy has passed away following an illness.
The journalist, broadcaster and prominent wine critic was one of the signature contributors of the Moncrieff show over the years.
In a tweet last night, presenter Sean Moncrieff described him as “literally a gentleman and a scholar.”
Devastated to learn today of the death of Tomás Clancy, he was – literally – a gentleman and a scholar and I am proud to have known him,” he wrote.

Tomás spent over 20 years as a journalist and wine correspondent for the Sunday Business Post before adding the hugely popular Movies and Booze slot to his repertoire.
He was joined in the segment by film critic Esther McCarthy. Expressing her condolences last night, she described him as “the kindest of men, our funniest partner in crime and a brilliant broadcaster.”

He was a perfect gentleman with a light touch. Classy & sophisticated but too modest & refined to ever admit his sheer talent. RIP @tomasclancy one of kind.
