Tributes are pouring in for a mother and young daughter who died in car crash near Swinford in County Mayo yesterday evening.
46-year-old Aisling Moore and her eight-year-old daughter Abbigael Moore-Tournié died in a crash involving a car and a lorry on the N26 at Lismoran in Foxford just before 6pm.
They were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the lorry was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries.
In a post online, Kiltimagh GAA described Abbigael who played for their under-10 team, as a "kind, bubbly and fun-loving girl who will be missed dearly by all of us”.
Meanwhile, Swinford Athletics Club, where Abbigael was a member, said the community is in “shock and disbelief” this afternoon.
“News of the fatal crash claiming the lives of Aisling and Abbigael has rocked us to the core,” it said.
“Abbigael was the first child waiting for the gate to open every Tuesday evening rain, hail or shine and never missed a session, such was her love and enthusiasm for running, cartwheels and having fun.
“Her bubbly personality, beautiful smile and the sound of her laugh will be just some of the things we will treasure.”
It said Aisling always helped out in the club as much as possible and was “the first to offer if we needed help running an event”.
“They were both valued and respected members of our community [and] we are heartbroken beyond words.”
Separately, the Clann Machua Drama group described Aisling as “ever positive and ever warm”.
Gardaí are continuing to appeal to witnesses to the crash to come forward.
They are particularly interested in talking to road users who were travelling the N26 between Swinford and Foxford between 5:00 pm and 6:00 pm on Tuesday evening and may have camera footage.
The scene has been examined and the road has since reopened to traffic.
