The two young men who died in a car crash in County Limerick this week have been named locally as agriculture students Darragh Dullea and Cillian Kirwan.
The driver and a third passenger in the car, both aged in their 20s, were taken to University Hospital Limerick for non-life-threatening injuries.
Both Mr Dullea and Mr Kirwan were in their final year of their two-year course at Salesian Agricultural College in Pallaskenry, Co Limerick.
College principal Derek O’Donoghue said staff and students were “numb” after learning about their deaths.
“I would like to send my condolences to the families of the two students that have tragically lost their lives, and our thoughts and prayers are with their families and their friends and classmates,” he said.
'Feeling of great sadness'
Mr Kirwan, who was from Kilkenny, was a member of Piltown AFC, who paid tribute to him online.
“There is a feeling of great sadness around the club today as the terrible news filtered through that Cillian Kirwan lost his life in a tragic accident overnight,” it said.
“Such was the commitment he showed, he would cycle the six or seven kilometres from his house in Templeorum to the grounds in Kildalton Park in all sorts of weather in dark winter evenings when his mam was working night shifts.”
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.
Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and who were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
