This year's student Jailbreak competition has been won by Trinity students Hugh Weldon and Ahmad Mu'azzam.

The pair, who describe themselves as "two daring individuals who fear no darkness and give no quarter in the face of adversity,"arrived at Lake Bled in Slovenia at about 1.30pm, 28.5 hours after 97 teams left Collins Barracks in a race across Europe.

Several other teams arrived soon after, with Trinity’s Sam McMahon and James Orr taking second place, and four teams sharing third place.

When the teams left Dublin yesterday morning they were unaware of their destination, but a series of clues led to the announcement at 12pm today that the castle by scenic Lake Bled in Slovakia was the finish line.

Organiser Alison Kelly says it was a tight contest:

The event was in aid of Amnesty International and St Vincent de Paul, and already over half of their €100,000 target has been raised.

You can text 'Jailbreak' to 50300 to donate €4 to the fund.
