Three people remain in Garda custody in Dublin following what is believed to be the first gangland murder of the year.
The Justice Minister has condemned the shooting in Drimnagh, describing it as "completely unacceptable."
The 20 year-old victim of the gun attack, that happened in the Knocknarea Road area of Drimnagh, has been named locally as Josh Itseli.
He died at the scene in the early hours of yesterday morning after being shot a number of times.
A Mercedes Benz and a Volkswagen Golf were discovered crashed while a number of other vehicles were damaged.
A silver ford focus also found nearby has been identified as a vehicle of interest.
Gardaí found a suspected pipe bomb at Knocknarea Court, which had to be made safe.
Armed officers arrested two men and a teenage boy shortly after the shooting - all of whom remain in Garda custody.
An incident room has been set up at Sundrive Road Garda Station and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.
