Former US President Donald Trump will visit Ireland at the beginning of May.

The visit has not been officially confirmed but Newstalk understands Mr Trump will visit his golf course in Doonbeg, County Clare and then travel onto his mother’s native Scotland.

Although Mr Trump is not the serving President of the United States, he is still entitled to security and Gardaí would be expected to pitch in and protect him.

In March, Mr Trump pled not guilty to 34 felonies in relation to the 2016 US Presidential election.

He plans to stand again for the Presidency in 2024 against incumbent Joe Biden.
