A Status Yellow snow and ice warning is in effect for the entire country.
Met Éireann said wintry showers, mainly of hail and sleet, will become increasingly widespread during the day leading to icy patches.
Some snow accumulations will also occur.
The warning came into effect at 6am and is expected to remain in force until 9am tomorrow.

Meanwhile, a Status Yellow wind warning is due to come into force in Clare and Kerry later on today.
The forecaster said winds will have mean speeds of 50kph to 60kph with gusts of up to 100kph.
The warning is due to come into force at 2pm and remain in place until 11pm.

Bright but cold and blustery today with sunny spells and showers.
The showers will have a wintry mix of hail and sleet, with some snow also, mainly over high ground.
There is also a risk of thunder.
The showers will be most frequent in the western half of the country. Some patchy frost and ice at first and highs of just 3C to 6C.
It is due to become very windy this afternoon along the Munster coast.
TONIGHT
Very cold tonight with clear spells and further wintry showers with some snow accumulations on hills and mountains.
Min temperatures of -2C to 1C in fresh northwest winds with a risk of frost and icy patches.
Winds moderating overland later.
