The Teachers' Union (TUI) of Ireland have defended the amount of holidays teachers receive.
A recent survey carried out by the union has found that 96 per cent of teachers agreed their workload had increased in the last five years.
They say their job has become excessively administrative in recent years, which is deflecting from classroom teaching and learning.
TUI General Secretary John MacGahann said that even though teachers are currently on two weeks holidays, they are still working.
"I can understand that the issue of holidays arises any time teachers point to the problems of the system," he said.
"I would equally point out that practically every teacher who is currently on holidays will have taken, with him or her, wherever they might go ... a very significant volume of work in terms of correction work - which is work."
