The pilot service launched on Tuesday 15th September of 2011 at 2pm which is provided free of charge to all UPC’s digital cable customers.
On the day of the launch the Oireachtas said: “As part of our agreement with UPC, Oireachtas proceeding will be carried live from 2.00 p.m on Tuesdays until close of business on Thursdays with coverage of Dáil Éireann.
“Coverage of sittings of Seanad Éireann and Committees will be then broadcast from Thursday evening until 2.00 p.m the following Tuesday.”
The move taken by Oireachtas and UPC has paid off with around 20,000 viewers tuning in each day. The channel will also available on Saorview when the digital switchover takes place in 36 days on October 24th this year.
