The managing director of Twitter Ireland has been named the IMAGE Businesswoman of the Year.

Sinéad McSweeney took home the top award at the 2019 black-tie event in Dublin's Clayton Hotel Burlington Road on Monday night.

Ms McSweeney has been a key leader in the Twitter team since she joined the company in 2012, before taking over as MD in 2016.

The Cork native was director of communications for An Garda Síochána from 2007 to 2012, and before that was director of media and public relations for the PSNI.

The IMAGE Businesswoman of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award winner was Linda Kiely, co-founder of business process outsourcing company Voxpro.

Under her leadership, Voxpro grew from an office with six people to a global team of over 6,500 members around the world.

The firm was bought for €150m in 2017.

Newstalk presenter Dr Ciara Kelly also presented at the ceremony.


The annual IMAGE Businesswoman of the Year Awards have been running for 13 years, and champion businesswomen’s contribution to the Irish economy.

The awards recognise women in business, from CEOs of major firms to the entrepreneurs behind some of the country’s most ambitious start-ups.

IMAGE Media CEO Clodagh Edwards said: "It is encouraging to see so many new names on the Irish business landscape – all of these women are truly inspirational".

The nine category winners for 2019 are:

  • Entrepreneur of the Year (over €250k): Chupi Sweetman, CEO, Chupi
  • Entrepreneur of the Year (under €250k): Ollwyn Moran, CEO, CogniKids
  • Social Entrepreneur of the Year: Emma Reidy, CEO, Aoibhneas
  • Management Professional of the Year: Tara Brennan, head of marketing and development, Chadwicks Group
  • CEO of the Year: Lorraine Butler, managing director, CPM Ireland
  • Digital & Technology Businesswoman of the Year: Hannah Wrixon, CEO, Get The Shifts
  • Creative Businesswoman of the Year: Carol-Anne Leyden, director and co-founder, CA Design
  • Start-up of the Year: Aisling Teillard, CEO, Tandem HR Solutions
  • Young Businesswoman of the Year (under 35): Cora Murphy, clinical director, All About Healthcare
