Twitter has returned to normal service after it dropped across large parts of the world including Europe, the US, Japan and South America.

The website experienced technical issues for around an hour after it went down at around 19:45 this evening.

The website downdetector said it fielded thousands of reports across the world.

Visitors to the site were greeted with the message “Something is technically wrong.”

Users attempting to access the site through its website and mobile apps all reported problems.
