Two men have been arrested after a man was found dead at an apartment in Mayo last night.
Gardaí say they were called to the apartment on Tone Street in Ballina shortly after 11.45pm last night.
They found the man in his 50s with serious injuries in the apartment and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two men, aged in their late 20s and early 30s, were arrested and taken to a Garda station in the northwest of the country.
The scene has been sealed off ahead of a forensic examination and a post-mortem examination has been arranged.
Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.
They are particularly interested in talking to anyone who was in the Tone Street area around the time of the incident and may have camera footage.
A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Ballina Garda Station.
A Family Liaison Officer has also been appointed to support the dead man’s family.
