Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder of a man in Cavan last year.

John Kerins, 49 - a former Senior Detective - was found shot dead at his home in Cornaveagh on the outskirts of Bailieboro on the 9th of November 2012.

At the time garda sources indicated they were looking into his links to a gang suspected of involvement in stealing machinery and drug dealing.

Two men were arrested this morning - they're being detained at Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan Garda Station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act.

A number of searches are also taking place in the Bailieboro, Co. Cavan area in connection with the investigation.
