Fianna Fáil is proposing an investment of two billion euros into rural infrastructure as part of its promise to help towns and villages grow.
Fianna Fáil TD for Cork south west, Christopher O'Sullivan, says long-standing issues with roads and wastewater treatment have hampered the growth of rural towns.
“We've seen, particularly in in the most peripheral parts of Ireland, the basic roads infrastructure being an issue,” he said.
“Of course, as we know, some legacy wastewater infrastructure issues have meant that many towns can't expand.”
Mr O’Sullivan said the two billion euro package would be focused on these issues.
