A man and a woman have appeared in court in connection with a New Year’s Day attack in Tallaght that has left a 20 year old man on a life support machine.

Graham Palmer (23) and Aisling Burke (20) have been charged with violent disorder.

The incident happened at a pedestrian bridge at Saint Dominic’s road at around 4am yesterday morning.

Dublin District Court heard Graham Palmer of Bolbrook Grove, Tallaght and Aisling Burke of Homelawn Road, Tallaght made no reply when charged and cautioned this morning at Tallaght Garda Station.

Gardai say more serious charges may follow.

The two accused have been granted bail on their own bond of 750 euro and an independent surety of 2 thousand euro.

Judge Michael Walsh stipulated that they must stay out of Tallaght and not interfere with prosecution witnesses.

Graham Palmer is to reside at Holywell Crescent, Donaghmede and Aisling Burke is to stay at Lissadell Drive in Drimnagh.

A remand date will be set later this afternoon.

Gardai raised objections to their release on bail given the seriousness of the charge, which carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison, and given the nature of the evidence against them.

It is alleged that the pair can be seen in CCTV footage of the incident and that it allegedly shows Graham Palmer striking the injured party.

Gardai claim he was caught red handed with blood on his face and hand, and that when Aisling Burke was pursued and detained nearby she had blood on her shoes.

A second man is still being questioned in connection with the attack.

Gardai have appealed for information from anyone who was in a fast food restaurant in the vicinity of the Square from around 2am yesterday morning and who may have witnessed the incident.
