Earlier, a woman died following a shooting incident in Tallaght.

The latest shooting incident happened in Lucan this evening when a man in his mid 40's was shot at around 7.30p.m. at a house in Earlsfort View.

He was taken to Tallaght Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The scene has been preserved and gardai are carrying out a technical examination.

Gardai say they are investigating the possibility-that a burnt out car which was located in Glen Vale in Lucan- may be involved in the incident.

In a separate incident, earlier today, gardai were called to a house in Killinarden Estate in Tallaght shortly after 4 o'clock where they discovered a middle aged woman with fatal injuries.

Another woman, believed to be in her 20s, is also being treated for gunshot injuries at Tallaght Hospital. Her injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

A man in his 50's was arrested at the scene and he is being treated for non life threatening injuries at St James' Hospital.

A  shotgun was also recovered.

The office of the State Pathologist has also been notified in both cases.
