In Carlow two people were killed when the car they were travelling was involved in an accident with a bus.
The crash happened half three this afternoon when a car and a bus collided at Rathwade Cross in Bagnalstown .
Two female occupants of the car, one believed to be in her 50s and the other believed to be in her 70s, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two children who were also in the car have been removed to St. Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
The male driver and female passenger of the bus, who are believed to be in their late 40s or early 50s, have also been removed to St. Luke’s Hospital where their condition is not known.
The road has been closed and emergency services remain at the scene.
Elsewhere, an elderly man has been left in critical condition and three others injured following a seperate crash in Kerry.
The accident happened at Brennan's Glen on the N21 at around 2.30pm.
A man in his 70s and a woman in her 50s were in one car, while two men in their 20s were in the second.
They were all taken to Tralee General Hospital.
The road has been closed for a technical examination and diversions are in place.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
