Two Gardaí were injured in an assault while attending the scene of a single car collision on the M50 yesterday morning.
The Gardaí - a man and a woman - were assaulted by the driver and the sole occupant of the car near Finglas.
The two members were brought to hospital for treatment and were discharged shortly after.
The driver of the car, a man in his late 20s, was apprehended by Gardaí and brought to hospital for treatment.
His injuries are non-life-threatening.
No arrests have been made.
The Garda Representative Association said yesterday's assault adds to the "lengthening list of attacks" of Gardái on duty.
"The GRA have and will continue to highlight the increasing levels of attacks on our members," GRA spokesperson Mark Ferris said.
"We hope that the next coalition government understands that policing is not simply another public sector job but one that deserves to be treated as a specialised role with a unique risk profile."
The GRA said Gardaí are "far more exposed than most to violent and irrational members of the public".
A Garda investigation into all of the circumstances surrounding yesterday's incident is taking place.
